Welcome to the Correctional Education Data Network, a site dedicated to building consensus around a common language for organizing and reporting state correctional education data.

To support this effort, we’ve developed the Correctional Education Data Guidebook with guidance from a working group composed of correctional education administrators in 12 states and representatives from the Bureau of Justice Statistics and the Federal Bureau of Prisons. The Guidebook summarizes key policy issues in correctional education and provides the variables and suggested coding instructions for the data needed to address these policy issues.

You can review the policy issues and search the variables included in the Guidebook, or print the complete document (PDF, 311kb). You also can link to reports that analyze correctional education data at the national level and assess how data are collected and reported.
